Michael G. Gilmour
Deputy Buffalo County Attorney
Special Deputy County Attorney for Kearney, Phelps, Harlan, and Franklin Counties
Mr. Gilmour is a 1994 graduate of the University of Nebraska—Lincoln, Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice; and a 2000 graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Law, Juris Doctor. He has worked in corrections and law enforcement. From 2000-2010, he worked as a Deputy County Attorney in Adams County, Nebraska, and handled juvenile and adult cases, from speeding to homicide, (DUI was his favorite…nope) plus Mental Health Board cases, and a smattering of appellate work. Since 2010, he has worked as a Deputy County Attorney in Buffalo County, Nebraska, where he specializes in domestic violence and related offenses. As such, he interacts with DV victims almost daily. DV very often intersects with many other issues, such as divorce, child custody, child support, mental health, substance abuse, protection orders, and criminal liability on their own part. Most of the victims he encounters, interestingly, don’t want his help and won’t cooperate in prosecution of the offender, which can be explained by Sarah Buel’s 50 REASONS article. He also prosecutes selected DV cases in Phelps, Harlan, Kearney, and Franklin Counties in Nebraska, and likes visiting historic courthouses. Mike lives in Kearney with wife Kathy and their two dogs.
